The Devil is a sly old fox………

I remembered this song from Sunday School today. My brother did something really stupid…ok it wasn’t him who was stupid..it was me….anyways that’s not the point here. He came in while I was studying and told me that he was going to ask me to do something important. He asked me to breathe in deeply a few times, then he asked me to hold my breath for as long as I could…..I held it in for about 30 secs and then left it…..I wasn’t really very serious about the whole thing…and then he told me that if i couldn’t hold my breath for at least 1 minute I was more vulnerable to have a heart attack…it left me stunned for a moment and then I thought of trying the holding the breath thing again….and while i tried it the second time he burst out laughing saying that he was fooling me all along…I felt really stupid!! I know he’s capable of all these funny things but still somehow I never thought he was pulling my leg all through that silly exercise.

But then that’s so true of the devil also. Now I’m not drawing a parallel between my brother and the devil, mind you (though I would love to :P ), but what I’m saying here is this – We know that the devil is a liar and that he is the father of lies, but still we choose to believe so many lies that he tells us and keeps bombarding us with – about how we look terrible, and how we don’t have a nice and comfortable life and how our neighbor is always better off than us and so on and so forth. We know he isn’t capable of telling the truth and we know the truth ourselves yet we are deceived by his pack of lies.

May God keep us from the deception of the devil…..and may we realize that the battle that we are enlisted in is a victorious battle…he’s the defeated enemy….we are more than conquerors…Praise God!!

The devil is a sly old fox

if I could catch him and put him in a box

lock the door and throw away the key

for all the mean things he’s done to me…….

    Hey Ash!

Feels good to visit ur blog again….! This is what I mean when I say that I dont agree with all of your beliefs….pls dont misunderstand me dear as I am not in anyways making any harsh statements on you… just sharing my thots…! Across ur blog there is at times mentioning of this “devil” and u have written abt that entity (if it is an entity) here again. Just read on:
I know u believe or we all like to believe that there is a “devil”. But, frankly speaking, I think, that it is impossible to “believe in” the devil – since the devil deserves only an attitude of disbelief – we do not believe in him but ‘against’ him. If you want to “believe in” something, its much better to “believe in” God! And belief in God is itself also a denial and rejection of the powers of nothingness and of all the dark glory of their parasitic pseudo-existence!!

Knowingly or unknowingly we all are part of the “devil made me do it” syndrome and pastors love to preach on this subject. “The devil made me do it” is a symptom of our sinfulness. We simply don’t like it when it’s our fault. We do not like to admit failure. Well, maybe you do, but I sure don’t. Who better to blame it on than the father of lies, our great adversary, the roaring lion looking for whom he may devour?

The devil is an easy mark. No one disputes that he’s evil, so he has motive. And no one can safely rule him out as a suspect, after all who is sure of his whereabouts every minute? The devil is the perfect patsy for those times when we won’t take the responsibility for our own actions. You cheated on your taxes? The devil made you do it. You lied to your spouse? The devil made you do it.

I’m not one to sell Satan short. I guess you could say that I’ll give the devil his due. But the devil cannot make you do anything against your will. The devil or his demons cannot inhabit the same body which is infilled by the Holy Spirit. Like Jesus said, how can a robber rob the house of a strong man? He must first tie up the strong man. And you and I both know no demon can tie up the Holy Spirit. So all this business about having the demon of lust inside you or the demon of alcohol or any other demon for that matter is all just screaming, “The devil made me do it!” But this time, the devil isn’t guilty.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t need the devil to make me sin. I do it just fine on my own. Now he may talk and he may tempt and he may entice and he may try to shout out my reasons for obedience to God, but he does not and can not make me sin. If I sin, or rather when I sin, it’s my own fault and I bear the responsibility. I can’t go blaming the prince of this world when I’m the one who cheats or lies or robs or gets drunk or buys an expensive new dress I can’t afford. The devil didn’t make me do it. I rebelled against God willingly, the same way Adam and Eve chowed down on forbidden fruit of their own volition.

Say what?? Phewwww………that was quite a lot!!!

Newayz… and let me confess (again dont misunderstand)…. I just love the way u write…. its so raw and natural…… u r just TOO GOOD!!!!! I think I’m already in love with ur writing.

Will visit again if I get the time. Do reply. And woman, keep up the good work!!!

    In Christ,
    Mark

Hey!!! I just saw your response sorry for the late reply. Ya i agree with what you’re saying….. i was just reiterating the fact that he is the father of lies and deception and how sometimes we seem to get caught in that rut……..
Nice to see you around…thank you for your comments and hope to see you around more often :)

This is an amazing post. Actually tells you more about yourself than you think it does. Why am I saying this??? U r a Psychologist yourself. It’s good to know that you feel this way about the devil. In fact, what we believe to be the devil is indeed another of God’s creation. Or rather he was another of God’s archangel, before the fall. So remember that the devil has his own way of tricking people into doing things they believe in their own wild way, as being right. He is indeed the master of all lies and is someone who knows more about us than we know about Ourselves. So be aware, and careful for “Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. – I Pet 5:8″
God Bless You Ashwini and say hi to Enoch for doing what he did, and inspiring you to write this wonderful post. :)
